This year, the first day of school was a first of a lot of things for us.
Brylie started 1st grade! She will now be gone all day long. I'm was sad at the realization that she is now away from me more than she is home with me now. That means outside influences will be around her more than our influence. I sure hope we taught her well and that she picked up what she'll need to resist the peer pressures she will face. I'm really not worried but still sad at the realization. We have every confidence that she is well prepared scholastically and will do great!
Brody started kindergarten! This was definitely more difficult for me than for him. He has been looking forward to this for a long time! He has a brand new teacher out of school and he is in the PM class so he can come home with his sister. He, like Brylie, will do just fine in school! He already reads very well and can count like a champ and is even doing math.
Olivia started preschool this year. She is the youngest in the co-op group she is in. I think they will have a fun year! She will learn a lot, I'm sure! You can see the artwork she performed on Brad's car with a rock...

Did you know we had a baby?
So this is way late but after you read this post, you may be more sympathetic to our lack of posting. I would have posted our joyous news much earlier had I been able.
Peyton was due on the 19th of October, 2012 and if I followed my regular gestational trend, she would have been born around the 5th or so of October. I was sure this would happen since she was measuring quite a bit bigger than she was supposed to (ie. measuring 36 cm at 32 weeks...generally, those numbers should match). I had 2 ultrasounds to check her size, one at 36 weeks and one at 37 weeks by a specialist. At the 36 week ultrasound they determined she weighed 7.5 lbs and at the 37 week one, the specialist determined her to be 9 lbs already. This wouldn't normally be all that alarming except that Olivia, my 3rd was born 2 weeks early and weighed 8 lb 12 oz and got a broken collarbone during a difficult delivery. We didn't want this baby to get stuck and have complications like Olivia's or worse so we decided to opt for a C-section when I went into labor...whenever that happened. Remember, I was expecting her to be born around 10 days to 2 weeks early.
So the wait began.
I was really hoping she would come like the others did...early because we were under contract on our house in our move back to Utah for a work transfer of sorts and were set to close on the 17th of October, 2 days before the due date. How would this work? With a C-section, you are in the hospital for 3 days maybe 4 depending on how well you recover and then are very limited in what you can do for the next 6 weeks, driving being one of them because of risk of blood clots. If we closed on our house on the 17th before the baby was born, where would we live if we weren't able to go then? So I was trying to be as faith-filled as possible all the while, asking Heavenly Father if the baby would be healthy, please let her be born on the 28th of September, at 37 weeks but only if she would be healthy.
The 28th came and went.
I was very uncomfortable and had been for the past month or two...remember, this baby was already 9 lbs in my womb and had 3 more weeks to gain on average 1/2 to 1 lb each week. In the 6 weeks before, I started packing our house. But not really doing a ton because we were going to hire someone to pack the house and then the truck. Why should I do it when people can for me? Then we decided to do it ourselves...because it wouldn't be that hard, right? I really don't know what we were thinking...honestly! I think we decided this about 3 weeks before the closing. Time suddenly felt short! At the end of every pregnancy, every mom will tell you time stands still...not now. It was flying and I could hardly do anything because I was SO FAT and uncomfortable! I had so many great friends and helpers come pack for me, clean for me, make meals for us, watch my kids, everything. And all this time, Brad had to plan for, and execute this move not only for us but for his office too as they were also closing the office in Denver and moving it to Utah.
At 38 weeks, I had an appointment with my doctor scheduled but I couldn't for the life of me find a babysitter and I had to miss it! The office was not very helpful either and so when I called they just scheduled my 39 week appointment and called it good. Well, I had remembered the doctor saying he wouldn't induce me any earlier than 39 weeks because research showed the chances for needing a c-section are a little bit higher with inductions even with the a big baby. But now that we had decided to just do a c-section, we could schedule me at 39 weeks. So after realizing this, I called the office back and was scheduled to have a c-section on the same day as my 39 week appointment. Now, the plan was to go in on the 12th, have the baby, be in the hospital until the 16th, close on the 17th, and stay in a hotel until I felt like I could make the long broken up drive to Utah.
Peyton was born October 12th at 8:05 am. If you have never had a c-section, it may now be the form of birth I'd choose. Either I was VERY blessed (which is the scenario I'm guessing) or I had great team of docs and nurses (which is also true) because it was virtually painless and I healed just as fast as if I had birthed her naturally minus a few aches from the stitches inside by my upper stomach. It really was easy. As long as I followed the doc orders of taking my ibuprofen every 4 hours, I was fine. My sweet baby was perfect and the first thing the docs said was how big she was. Brad was able to take of a picture of the doctors pulling her out of my belly...half in half out. Kind of weird. I won't include that shot.

So remember she was supposed to be 9 lbs? Well, believe it or not, she came out a ginormous 10 lbs 12 oz. It's true...I gave birth to a small toddler.
Thank goodness my parents came to town! Brad had to finish packing up the house and take care of the kids because after a couple of days in the hospital, Peyton had an episode where she stopped breathing long enough to turn purple/blue and then when she started to breath again, her o2 saturations didn't recover well enough for the nurses to keep her out of NICU. So, like all the rest of her siblings, she spent her time in the NICU. After a day or so, the doctors couldn't figure out what was causing her apnea so we decided to transfer her to Denver Children's Hospital where she would be well taken care of. So at 5 days old, an ambulance transported her to Childrens. We would spend a grueling 10 days there having test after test all of which came back normal. We still have no idea what was causing her apnea. We did learn that she has reflux and maybe that caused her to stop breathing. She was on an apnea monitor for a month after she was released from the Childrens. Atleast I now know of all the things that are NOT wrong with my baby! And she has been fine ever since. I would post pictures of her in the hospital but I lost them...they were on my phone...boo
A day after she was released, we moved to Utah. True story.

More of What We've Been Up To
In no particular order, here's a hodge-podge of photos and recaps to let you know what we've been up to lo these many months:
We went to Utah right over the Fourth of July for a much needed family vacation and to get a rough idea of homes and neighborhoods for our upcoming move. We were able to take in the Provo Fourth of July Parade:
After Brad got back from taking the Utah Bar Exam, the family went into Longmont for their annual Classic Car Cruise where hundreds of hot-rods and classic cars drive back and forth on Main Street.
In August we decided we needed to get to Rocky Mountain National Park before we moved away:
Brylie was SOOOOO excited to start Kindergarten, and that meant our first "back-to-school" father's blessing:
And our first bus ride--she can hardly contain her excitement, and the other kids were/are plenty jealous:
And in the way of "oh yeah, we forgot about that" things, we went to a massive hot air balloon launch in May. It wasn't even the main event, but that meant the crowd was smaller and we still got to see 20 balloons launch and were able to get right up next to the ballooners.

Brad and the older two kids hiked the "Y" as part of the Gunnell Family Reunion that was going on at the same time. Cass was "pregnant", or so she says, so she stayed at the house with Olivia:

More updates will follow once we dig into camera phone photos and once #4 makes her grand entrance.

Finally...
After a long wait and many, many showings (like 40, which may not seem like a lot but with three kids under 5 and being 32 weeks pregnant...it's a lot), we are finally under contract! The timing of it all is quite a testimony to me that we are not really in control. We close on the 17th of October and if you recall, our baby is due October 19th. But anyone who knows me or my birthing history (and I don't blame you if you don't), I won't make it to that date...never have and hope I won't either!
So now the search begins for a home...and that's the scary part! We are struggling, to say the least, trying to figure out where to end up. It's quite frightful actually, knowing we have to move on a certain date, that we'll have a new baby, a kindergartner who loves school almost as much as life itself, and the other 2 who will be wanting lots of attention and playtime but nothing feels right yet.
On another note, I am so sad to have to sell my house! We got very lucky here and although I know it's what we need to do right now, I fear that this last year has been our year of living in our dream house. And we put a lot of work into it! However, I know that sometimes sacrifices are required and bring a higher return of blessings the more difficult the sacrifice. And compared to the sacrifices some of our friends have had to give, this is nothing.
So on to bigger and better things! We have a lot of decision to make in the coming days and weeks. And packing to do in the mean time!

Have you been looking for us?
In Utah, I mean. Well, our plans have obviously changed...we haven't moved to Utah yet. Our house continues to have showings however, no offers. So we decided, for many reasons, to stay here until our baby is born (through October). If the house sells, we'll figure something/somewhere to live until the baby comes.
This has been a great lesson (I think I'm starting to figure it out) in patience and trust in the Lord. I know His way is much better than mine and I welcome it, whatever that may be. But if you are wondering exactly what that is for us, you'll have to ask Him, we don't know for sure yet but are willing and excited nonetheless!

Not sure if you knew...
The 4th Gunnell child is on HER way! Expected to arrive sometime around October 19th. We are thrilled (except for Brody who was a little devastated to learn he would be even more outnumbered)!

The way time has past for us...
There's nothing I can say to excuse my lack of updating the blog. I have found other things to occupy my time and frankly, I've stopped feeling guilty. I would however like to attempt to fill you in on these last few/several months of our lives as you will find much has changed (and will continue to change, I'm sure)
And lastly, after doing a lot of work in a very short amount of time (including painting the remaining rooms we hadn't painted in our house, and spreading nearly 10 yards of mulch in our backyard), we put our house up for sale. This is something we are very sad to do because we absolutely love our house, especially now that we've got it exactly how we want it but feel the timing is right. We only hope that our attempt to sell it "by owner" works out quickly eliminating the need to use an agent! If you know of anyone looking to buy a home in the Longmont, CO area, please forward them our blog, http://5978scenicavenuehouse.blogspot.com.
After all the birthday celebrations, we did many fun things, celebrated holidays among other things, and decided to move back to Utah (the company Brad works for is based out of Provo, Utah so that's where we're going). That has occupied much of our lives recently and will probably for the next little while.
So I'll use pictures with some caption to fill you in on the latest and greatest!
Saw the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile at our local King Sooper!
Brylie finished up her season of ballet lessons with a recital. She did a fantastic job!!
The Easter bunny found his way to our house and left a trail of candy to Easter books for everyone!
Went on a fun family hike in the nearby mountains.
Celebrated Mother's Day and got to remember the wonderful Mother's in our lives!! We love you!

My table
So we have been wanting to make a dining room table for a long time now and this particular one because you can make benches to go with it. Well, we did it! Brad was kind enough to let me do most of the work (break the drill bits by the handful, etc). I dare say that if he would have done more of the work, it would have turned out better still. But now I have a little confidence and have caught the fever! I hope to do a few more projects yet!
There aren't many pictures but here's what we have!

Birthday Land Around Here
We are pretty lucky (or cursed, depending on how you look at it) when it comes to birthdays because they are all within about 2 months of each other. I guess for me it's nice, to get into birthday mode hard core for a little bit and totally relax when it's all over for a good chunk of time. Birthday begins with breakfast in bed after which we generally open presents. For lunch, Mom takes the birthday kid out where ever they want to eat. Then we have whatever dinner they choose and the cake of their choice.
Then was Cassidy's birthday...
Then was Brylie's birthday...
Brylie had a birthday party this year with several friends. She loved it! And it was pretty fun for me to do too!
Then was Brody's birthday...
And finally, Brad's birthday...we didn't take many pictures because we are lame like that. Poor Brad but I think he had a good day!
